Water fountains in Paris
367
free public drinking fountains, called fontaines Wallace, mapped within a 3.1 km walk of the centre. They run continuously, cost nothing, and the water is the same supply as the tap.
Tap water in Paris is safe to drink, and the fountains carry the same supply. See why

Is it safe to drink from them?
Fountain water is the same supply as the tap, so the answer is whatever the answer is for Paris's tap water. That is a question with published figures behind it rather than an opinion.
How they work
The green cast-iron Wallace fountains run from roughly March to November and are drained over winter so the pipes do not freeze. The plainer modern posts run all year.
How far from the landmarks
Straight-line distance from each landmark to the nearest mapped fountain, measured rather than estimated. Walking takes longer than the number suggests.

Looking for the fountains at the Trocadéro instead?
That is a monument, not a drinking fountain. Paris has both, and the words for them are the same in English, which is why this page and that search collide. You cannot drink from the fountains at the Trocadéro; the ones you can drink from are the fontaines Wallace above.
The ones worth stopping at
Most of these fountains are anonymous street taps and there is nothing to say about them. A few are not: these are the ones OpenStreetMap links to a catalogued record, so the description and the photograph both come from somewhere checkable.

Fountains with something to note
Most of the 367 are anonymous street taps and a list of them would be the same line many times over, so they stay on the map. These are the ones with a name, a bottle-filling spout, or step-free access.

Fountain locations come from OpenStreetMap contributors, refreshed 1 September 2026. A fountain that is mapped is not guaranteed to be running: they are turned off for repairs, and in some cities over winter.
