Privacy

iswatersafetodrink.in is run by Sascha Mayr. It is a static website: there are no accounts, no logins, and no forms that ask you for anything. This page explains the little that does happen, and who else is involved.
What I collect myself
Almost nothing. The site is a set of files built before you arrive. I run no database, keep no visitor logs, set no cookies of my own, and ask you for nothing at any point.
There is one exception, and it is the savings calculator. So that it can start on a sensible country and currency instead of making you pick, it asks my host which country the request came from. Cloudflare works that out from your IP address, which it already has in order to send you the page at all, and returns a two-letter country code and nothing else. I never see your IP address, the country is not stored or logged anywhere, and no cookie is set. It runs only on the calculator page. If the request is blocked or fails, the calculator simply starts on its default.
What third parties collect
The pages carry advertising and measurement from other companies. They, not I, set cookies and similar identifiers in your browser, and they receive your IP address and details of the page you are reading. Each links to its own policy.
Google AdSense
Serves the advertising on this site and uses cookies to limit how often you see the same ad, to measure ads and to detect fraud. Where you consent, ads are also personalised. How Google uses data from sites that use its services.
AdSense is not the only company in this chain. If you consent, further advertising companies may process your data. The consent dialog lists each of them and lets you object to any one of them separately. The purposes it asks about currently include precise geolocation. This site does not use it: the only location it works with is the country code from Cloudflare that the savings calculator starts on.
Google Analytics
Tells me how many people visit and which pages they read, in aggregate. It runs only if you allow it. Google privacy policy.
Disqus
Hosts the comments. It loads only when you press “Show comments”, so if you never press it, Disqus never runs and sets nothing. Disqus privacy policy.
Cloudflare
Hosts and delivers the site, processes requests to keep it available and to block attacks, and performs the country lookup described above. Cloudflare privacy policy.
OpenFreeMap
The map page loads its background map images from OpenFreeMap, which receives your IP address in order to send them. It sets no cookies and requires no account or key. OpenFreeMap.
Your choices
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you are asked before any advertising or analytics cookie is set, and nothing non-essential runs until you answer. You can change that answer at any time using the privacy settings link shown with the consent message, or by clearing this site's cookies in your browser.
Your browser also lets you block or delete cookies entirely, and Google offers its own ad settings for controlling ad personalisation across sites.
California and other US states
I do not sell your personal information for money. Under California law, however, showing you personalised advertising counts as “sharing” personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, and the same is true under the privacy laws of Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah and other states.
You can opt out. Visitors in those states are shown a privacy message with a “Do not sell or share my personal information” choice, and you can reopen it at any time from the privacy settings link it provides. I also honour the Global Privacy Control signal, so if your browser or an extension sends it, it is treated as an opt-out without your having to ask.
California residents additionally have the right to know what personal information is collected about them, to have it deleted, to correct it, and not to be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights. Since this site holds nothing about you itself, those requests are answered by the companies listed above; write to me at the address below and I will point you to the right place.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete and port your personal data, to object to processing, and to complain to your national data protection authority. Because I hold no data about you myself, requests about advertising or analytics data are best directed to the companies named above, who are the ones holding it.
